ONE BLUE SHOE
2005 John McLane & Larry Zurn

This was the first song written for this cd. A guy who literally has only one shoe. It's not really about Tom Hanks in Castaway, but Z-Mans rendition of "Wilson!" sounded too good not to use!

ONE BLUE SHOE
2005 John McLane & Larry Zurn

Verse 1: I’VE BEEN SEARCHIN’ FOR A LONG, LONG TIME
I BEEN WALKIN, WALKIN, WALKIN
BUT I FIND MYSELF STARTIN’ TO FALL BEHIND
CAN’T SEEM TO FIND MY FOOTIN’
CAN’T FIND MY FOOTING IN THIS OLD WORLD NO MORE
ALL ‘CAUSE THAT WOMAN,
THAT WOMAN DONE STRIPPED ME OF MY SOLE

CHOR 1:ALL SHE LEFT ME, ALL SHE LEFT ME IS
ONE BLUE SHOE , ONE BLUE SHOE
I DON’T HAVE TO EXPLAIN NOTHIN’
ALL I GOT ME IS ONE BLUE SHOE, ONE BLUE SHOE

Verse 2: WHAT CAN I DO TO PUT MY BEST FOOT FORWARD
WHEN THE WOMAN TOOK EVERYTHING I HAD
RIGHT DOWN TO THE CLOTHES OFF MY BACK
THE ONLY THING THAT I CAN CALL MY OWN IS
ONE BLUE SHOE

Chor 2:ALL SHE LEFT ME, ALL SHE LEFT ME IS
ONE BLUE SHOE , ONE BLUE SHOE
PEOPLE CALL MY CROOKED
BUT I’M JUST WALKIN’ , WALKIN’ WITH ONE BLUE SHOE,
ONE BLUE SHOE
IT’S MY ONLY FRIEND I GOT LEFT
I CALL MY SHOE WILSON

SHAKY PUDDIN’
2005 John McLane & Larry Zurn

This tune is about our early roadhouse rock days...Shaky Puddin' is a tribute to all the hotties of the day who would vigorously shake their boobs in front of the band for attention! And , yes, an ex-girlfriend did take "Shaky Puddin' " home.

SHAKY PUDDIN’
2005 John McLane & Larry Zurn

Verse 1:
JUST ANOTHER FRIDAY NIGHT
THE BANDS SETTIN’ UP, WE’RE GONNA MAKE YOU FEEL ALRIGHT
THE DRUMMER’S MAKIN’ NOISE, HE’S POUNDIN’ ON THE SKINS
AIN’T MAKIN’ MUCH MONEY, WE’RE JUST HERE FOR THE SIN
THEN IN SHE WALKS... STRUTTIN’ HER STUFF
BOYS IN THE BAND GOTTA FLEX, GOTTA LOOK TOUGH
SHE SLIPS ON BY, GIVE A DOG A BONE
WHO’S GONNA GET LUCKY AND TAKE SHAKY PUDDIN’ HOME
CHOR:
SHE’S GOT THAT SHAKY PUDDIN;
THAT GIRLS GOT THAT SHAKY PUDDIN’ (MAKE IT WIGGLE, BABY)
VERSE 2:
Spoken:
(CHECKIN’ OUT THE ROOM, MAKIN SURE EVERYTHING’S ALRIGHT
HEY BABY, YOU’RE LOOKIN FINE)
BY THE MIDDLE OF THE FIRST SET, MISS SHAKY HAD CAST HER NET
BY THE SECOND SET, BOYS IN THE BAND REALLY STARTIN’ TO SWEAT
DANCIN REAL SMOOTH, LIKE JELLO ON A SPOON
MOVIN’ JUST RIGHT, SHE WAS SO IN TUNE
SHE SLIPS ON BY, GIVE A DOG A BONE
WHO’S GONNA GET LUCKY AND TAKE SHAKY PUDDIN’ HOME
Chorus
SHE’S GOT THAT SHAKY PUDDIN;
THAT GIRLS GOT THAT SHAKY PUDDIN’  (SHE'D MAKE A DEAD MAN SIT UP N' TAKE NOTICE)
Verse 3:
BEFORE YOU KNOW IT, IT’S THE END OF THE NIGHT
LITTLE MISS PUDDIN’S BEEN LOOKIN’ SO RIGHT
I GAVE HER A WINK BUT I ENDED UP ALONE
CUZ' MY BEST EX-GIRLFRIEND TOOK SHAKY PUDDIN’ HOME
Chorus
SHE’S GOT THAT SHAKY PUDDIN;
THAT GIRLS GOT THAT SHAKY PUDDIN’

NOT A HANDSOME MAN
2006 John G. McLane

Everyone knows one or two of these handsome men. It's the guy that gets all the attention from the ladies, even though they're the lamest musician in the band; it's the guy who seems to skate through life's bumps and bashes for no other reason than his looks! (Z-Man actually inspired the title to this when he described the Weather Channel guy as "Not A Handsome Man")

NOT A HANDSOME MAN
2006 John G. McLane

INTRO VERSE:
AS I GO THROUGH THIS LIFETIME
IT ALL SEEMS TO COMES DOWN TO JUST ONE THING
(DON’T MATTER) IF YOURE AN OLD MAN OR IN YOUR YOUTH
THERE AIN'T BUT ONE UNDENIABLE TRUTH

REFRAIN:
YOU GOTTA TRY TWICE AS HARD WHEN YOU’RE NOT A HANDSOME MAN
YOU GOTTA PUT IN TWICE THE TIME WHEN YOU’RE NOT A HANDSOME MAN
THEM PRETTY BOYS GET ALL THE BEST TOYS
WHILE THE REST OF US GET CHAINED OUT IN THE YARD
YOU GOTTA TRY TWICE AS HARD WHEN YOU’RE NOT A HANDSOME MAN

Verse 1
DOORS FLY OPEN EVERY DAY WHEN YOU’RE A HANDSOME MAN
WOMEN ALWAYS ASK YOU TO STAY WHEN YOU’RE A HANDSOME MAN
BUT WHEN YOU’RE STUCK OUTSIDE THE WINDOW
LOOKIN’ IN AND SEEIN’ ALL OF THIS
THINKIN’ BOUT ALL THE LUCK THAT YOU AIN'T HAVIN’
IT CAN GET YOU KIND OF PISSED
CUZ YOU GOTTA TRY TWICE AS HARD
WHEN YOURE NOT A HANDSOME MAN

Verse 2
WHEN YOU BEEN PASSED OVER FOR THE UMPTEENTH TIME
AND FAIR WEATHER FRIENDS ARE THERE TO KEEP YOU DOWN
HOW 'BOUT THEM EXTRA HOURS YOU BEEN WORKIN’
BETTER FACE IT, AIN'T NO WAY TO WIN THIS ROUND

DAMN HAPPY BLUES
2006 John McLane & Larry Zurn

This was  a track that was already partially-recorded when Z-Man decided it was too happy to be a blues song. In about 20 minutes, we'd written most of the lyrics. It's our Jack Daniels-flavored blues equivalent  of "Put On A Happy Face".

DAMN HAPPY BLUES
2006 John McLane & Larry Zurn

Verse 1:
I’M TRYIN’ TO SING THE BLUES, SURE WISH I COULD
BUT IT’S HARD TO SING THE BLUES  WHEN YOU FEEL THIS GOOD
IT’S THOSE DAMN HAPPY BLUES, I SHOULD HAVE PAID MY DUES

Verse 2:
MY CAR’S RUNNIN’ GREAT, MY TAXES ARE ALL PAID
IT’S A BEAUTIFUL MORNIN, WHAT ELSE CAN YOU SAY
I GOT TO GET SOME MISERY IN MY LIFE; I’M IN LOVE WITH MY WIFE

BRIDGE (SPOKEN):
YOU KNOW, I’VE BEEN SITTIN’ HERE THINKIN’ HOW GREAT LIFE IS:
ICE COLD BEER, I FINALLY TUNED MY GUITAR,
AND MOST OF ALL,
WENT TO THE TRACK AND WON ALL MY MONEY BACK

VERSE3
I’M STILL TRYIN; TO SING THE BLUES BUT I THINK I MIGHT FLIP
CAUSE THE BEER’S REAL CHEAP DOWN AT THE BUFFALO CHIP’S
I GOT TO GET SOME MISERY IN MY LIFE
GOT THE DAMN HAPPY BLUES

Chorus
DAMN HAPPY BLUES, DAMN HAPPY BLUES (WHO-HO)

DOWNTOWN
2006 by John G McLane/ Larry Zurn

We wrote this about the decline of downtown Atlanta from a gigger's viewpoint. Lived it first hand for years. Erie-ites will get the references to 'The Oneders" and "The Pappy Show" in the last verse!

DOWNTOWN
2006 by John G McLane/ Larry Zurn
VERSE 1
USED TO BE THE PLACE TO WORK WHERE EVERYTHING WAS HOT
IT WAS WORTH THE DRIVE TO MAKE THE SCENE,
BUT NOT IT DEFINITELY IS NOT
PLAYIN’ THE LATE SHIFT AFTER THE JAZZ CATS
STEPPIN' OVER HOMELESS FOLKS & KICKIN' THRU THE RATS

CHORUS
DOWNTOWN…AIN'T WHAT IT USED TO BE
DOWNTOWN…AIN'T NO PLACE FOR ME

BRIDGE
SOMEWHERE ALONG THE WAY IT CHANGED
THE MUSIC ALL WENT SOUTH
SOME HOW WE MISSED THE LAST TRAIN OUT
AS R&B TURNED INTO NASTY WORD OF MOUTH

VERSE 2 (AFTER SOLO)
(YOU KNOW) TIMES HAVE CHANGED ‘CAUSE WE AIN’T THE ONEDERS,
AND WE CAN’T WATCH THE PAPPY SHOW AT FOUR
GROWIN’ UP IN BETTER TIMES MAKES US CRAVE SOME MORE
(THESE DAYS) SUBURBAN FOLK WONT EVEN COME DOWNTOWN
TO HEAR US PLAY OUR SONG
TO DRIVE THIRTY MILES OF 12 LANE HELL,
I CANT SAY THEY’RE WRONG!

CHORUS
DOWNTOWN…AIN'T WHAT IT USED TO BE
DOWNTOWN…AIN'T NO PLACE FOR ME

What Are You Still Doing Here?
2006 John G. McLane

I wrote this originally for my JGM solo cd, but it just fit the B.B. Dogg thing too well. It's actually not written about personal experience, but it sure could apply!

What Are You Still Doing Here?
2006 John G. McLane

V1:
Seemed it was time for letting go / When every everything on earth I had tried
So I closed the door and left that place / And walked the road alone for awhile
But in a quiet moment / When my guard is down
A familiar song floats on the breeze
And it brings you back around

Chorus 1:
What Are You Still Doing’ Here What Are You Still Doing’ Here
I thought I moved on long ago Guess I didn’t know
What Are You Still Doing’ Here What Are You Still Doing’ Here
Just can’t seem to let this go

V2:
It’s been a lot of years gone by / And change is always goin’ on
We both moved on or so I’ve heard / Not a glimpse of you, and not a single word
But when I find some time alone /Far away from the daily roar
Like a half-heard whisper in a dream
There you are once more

Chorus 2:
What Are You Still Doing’ Here What Are You Still Doing’ Here
I thought I moved on years ago, Guess I was wrong
What Are You Still Doing’ Here What Are You Still Doing’ Here
Why can’t I let this go

CAB DRIVER
2006 by John G McLane & Larry Zurn

Z-Man brought the entire lyrics in to this epic story . Originally, it was over 20 minutes long, this is the "single version". It's a tale of love, deceit, intrigue and pretty much everything else. Moe, Moe, Moe Moe!

CAB DRIVER
2006 by John G McLane & Larry Zurn

Chor:
Hey Cab driver, won’t you take me to the bar
Hey Cab Driver, you know it’s not that far
I do my best thinking riding in the back of your car.
V1
Hidin’ in the corner, in the back of the room
I didn’t see her Chevy outside, she must'a rid in on her broom
If she catches me , she’s gonna be dancing on my tomb
Br:
Met her in Miami, down under Overtown way
We did that South Beach job, but she didn’t get paid
Next time I saw her, she was ridin’ with the heat
C’mon little Moe Moe, didn’t mean to cheat
V2:
Giddy up, cab driver; that woman’s hot on my tail
C’mon little buddy, she wants me back in jail
She thinks I took her diamonds, I told her the check was in the mail
Pull up over here, I know a place where I can hide
Slide around back through that door, we’ll be safe inside
Much to my surprise that door was stuck, no matter how hard I tried
Br 2
I looked behind me, all I could see was flashin’ blue
The cabby headed for cover, I didn’t know what to do
Policeman tossed me in his car, he said “Don’t worry, Dogg, we ain’t takin you too far
V 3
I was clicked up in back, and feelin bad
The policemen up front said “Dogg, you been had”
That voice sounded familiar , I said “no,no,no,no”
My cab drivin’ buddy turned out to be Moe
Moe, Moe, Moe

WHEN WHAT AS MINE WAS MINE McLane 2007

This one is for all the people who have loved and lost...material possessions, that is. Boogiehead lays down some great "Jr Walker"- style sax on this baby, and joins with Grammy in the sax section, too!

WHEN WHAT AS MINE WAS MINE McLane 2007
V1:
LIFE WAS SO EASY WAY BACK BEFORE
THE STORM CAME ROARIN’ THROUGH MY DOOR
IT’S GETTIN / MORE COMPLICATED SINCE WE MET AND
I’M / DREAMIN ‘BOUT THE DAYS WHEN THINGS WERE SEPARATE

CHOR:
WHEN WHAT WAS YOURS WAS YOURS
AND WHAT WAS MINE WAS MINE
(MINIBRIDGE)
BRING ME A  SLICE OF THE  SIMPLE TIMES
A WARM BARSTOOL , A CHEAP BOTTLE OF WINE
I COULD BE LIVIN’ ON EASY STREET  IF I’D / CHANGED MY MIND…
WHEN WHAT WAS YOURS WAS YOURS
AND WHAT WAS MINE WAS MINE

V2

SHE SAYS: I’LL BE TAKIN ALL OF THIS, MOST OF THAT &
C’MON , BABY, THE WALLET AIN’T THAT PHAT
SO I SAY WHAT (I SAY) TO HELP KEEP THE PEACE
BUT MY MIND KEEPS GOIN BACK TO THOSE DAYS OF EASE…
CHOR:
WHEN WHAT WAS YOURS WAS YOURS
AND WHAT WAS MINE WAS MINE to chorus

BRIDGE:
WOULDN’T MIND THE TRIP DOWN SINGLE’S LANE
BUT AIN’T NO ONE ALIVE CAN TAKE THE FINANCIAL DRAIN
THE PRICE OF DISCONNECT LEAVES ONLY LAWYERS IN LUST
SO I GUESS I’LL STAY PUT AND FEED THE TRUST

SUGAR DADDY 2OO7 McLane / Zurn

Z-Man brought in the concept for this slow-grind rocker. He really stretches on the vocals: from gravel-throated bombast to tender & sensitive...all within one line! Our pal Geo kicks out the great Santana-esque lead guitar.

SUGAR DADDY 2OO7 McLane / Zurn

HE’S ALWAYS OUT THERE HOWLIN’, ALL HOURS OF THE NIGHT
BUT STILL YOU LOVE YOUR B.B….HE ALWAYS TREAT YOU RIGHT
HE’S YOUR SUGAR DADDY, LIKE CARAMEL ON A STICK
FILL YOU WITH HIS SWEETNESS, NEVER PULL NO TRICK

Backgrounds:
(BRING IT HOME BIG DADDY, MAMA NEEDS A LICK)
(OOH, SUGAR DADDY) GONNA FILL YOU WITH MY SWEETNESS
(OOH SUGAR DADDY) HEY BABY, I’M YOUR SUGAR DADDY BABY
I’M YOUR SUPER FREAK-NESS

V2; WHEN DADDY GOES OUT CRUISIN’, OLD SCHOOL IS THE WAY
HE SEES LOTS OF LADIES, BUT HE PUSHES THEM AWAY
HE DRESSES UP FOR ACTION, BUT YOU KNOW IT’S ALL FOR SHOW
WHEN HE SEES THAT MORNIN’ TINT, HE KNOWS IT TIME TO GO

Backgrounds:
(BRING IT HOME BIG DADDY, MAMA NEEDS A LICK)
(OOH, SUGAR DADDY) GONNA FILL YOU WITH MY SWEETNESS
(OOH SUGAR DADDY) HEY BABY, I’M YOUR SUGAR DADDY BABY
I’M YOUR SUPER FREAK-NESS
YOU’RE MY DIRECTION, CONFECTION , SELECTION & PERFECTION BABY

CANT LET GO, CANT GIVE UP
2006 John G. McLane

Another tune originally written for the JGM solo cd, it just fits in this slot really well. It's a song of hope for those who feel , like I do , that common sense, commitment and hard work seem to often count for nothing! Raise your hands and say Hallelujah!

CANT LET GO, CANT GIVE UP
2006 John G. McLane

CHOR:
CANT LET GO, CANT GIVE UP  / WHEN A RAY OF HOPE IS STILL SHININ’ ON
NO, I CAN’T LET GO, CAN’T GIVE UP  GONNA KEEP ON SINGIN’ MY SONG
V1
IT’S HARD TO KEEP YOUR HEAD UP  WHEN PEOPLE ALL AROUND YOU
THEIR FACES ARE ALL LOOKING DOWN
CONFUSED ABOUT THE FUTURE  NOT KNOWING WHERE TO TURN
DECEPTION & LIES ALL AROUND
PRE 1:
SEEIN’ WHATS / BEEN GOIN’ ON IS BAD ENOUGH THESE DAYS
THINGS ARE GETTING WORSE  BUT I DON’T GIVE UP HOPE
SOMETIMES I WANNA SCREAM OUT TO THE WORLD

NO, I CAN’T LET GO, CAN’T GIVE UP GONNA KEEP ON SINGIN’ MY SONG

(SOMETIMES) PLAYIN’ BY THE RULES DON’T SEEM FAIR
FREEDOM’S DISAPEARING, AND HARD WORK DON’T BUY IT BACK
